FAITID Participated in International Conference for ccTLD Registries and Registrars of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe

The 6th International Conference for ccTLD Registries and Registrars of CIS, Central and Eastern Europe (TLDCON 2013) took place September 10-13, 2013 on Crete, Greece. It was organized by the Coordination Center for TLD RU and was supported by ICANN and the registry of the .GR TLD (national TLD of Greece). The conference was attended by more than 130 representatives of national registries and registrars from 24 countries, including experts from the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development (FAITID).

In light of the business globalization and changing of business models, Internet market should always seek new opportunities for extending the international cooperation, as well as development of the global domain names market, which was the key purpose of this event.

The main topics of TLDCON 2013 were:

  • Cyrillic IDN TLDs (prospects of such domains, regional marketing strategies, attracting customers);
  • Prospects of the new gTLDs in comparison with the ccTLDs;
  • Development of the DNS infrastructure and information security;
  • Internet and law.

There was a special legal session. IT experts, including Dmitry Burkov (FAITID Board Chairman) and Maxim Alzoba (FAITID expert), talked about adapting existing laws to Internet reality, issues of the recent laws on website blocking in relation to the DNS, issues of the New gTLD jurisdiction and potential problems related to it.

Notably, Maxim Alzoba talked on RA and RAA procedures development in the New gTLD program (video), in particular about adapting these agreements to the national laws and about related ICANN’s issues.
